About CCC Phonics
The Christ-Centered Phonics program is suitable for beginning readers
as well as older students needing remediation. (An adult who is
a poor reader would profit from the Christ-Centered Phonics Drill
Reader; many have also reported using the drill reader successfully
as a missionary effort while teaching English to foreigners. See
Early
Readers at the Online Catalog for a description of its contents.)
The Christ-Centered Phonics program is saturated with Scripture
and its principles. The teaching methodology is multi-sensory to
insure that all types of learners-auditory, visual, and "hands
on"-achieve success. The phonics lesson plans overlap from
level to level. In other words, students will repeat certain lesson
plan books as they move through the program. However, when doing
so, rather than teaching every single exercise in the daily lesson,
the focus should be on areas which still need strengthening. A child's
academic growth each year will be reflected in how much more is
assimilated from the phonics lessons, and the degree of proficiency
in completing the increasingly more challenging workbook assignments.
Recommended Pacing Schedule: K4s should normally complete
the Level A:1 and A:2 workbooks in one year. However, if A:2 is
not finished by the time the next school year begins, do not hold
the student back on A:2-go on to Level B:1. K5s or Beginning 1st
graders (those not schooled previously) should complete the Level
B:1, B:2, and B:3 workbooks within a year. However, an independent
reader who has not completed B:3 may skip its completion and go
on to Level C:1. Advanced 1st or 2nd graders (A1st/2nd) should complete
workbook Levels C:1, C:2, and C:3 in a year.
Traditional Results: If taught properly, K4s (4-year-olds)
commonly read at a 1st or 2nd grade level by the end of the school
year. K5s (5-year-olds) or B1st (Beginning 1st Grade) students,
with only one year of school, traditionally can read at 2nd or 3rd
grade level. Those with two or more years of CCC often read at 3rd
grade level, or higher; some have even scored at 7th or 8th grade.

A 6-, 7-, or 8-year-old who is just starting out, or poor in phonics,
should begin at Level B-not Level A, which is specifically designed
for 4-year-olds or developmentally-delayed children just starting
to learn to read. An older student who needs remediation would
do best on Level C materials. (Because the Christ-Centered Phonics
program is not written in a little child's language, nor is the
artwork infantile, an older student should feel no stigma using
Level C.)
