"Your book "Never too early" is one of the best books I have ever read. It is so so helpful to me. Thanks so much for writing such a wonderful book for parents. I'm so encourged by you! Not only the book, but I have learned so much from your curriculum for the past ten months while I'm teaching my child. I found out that I am the one who should learn the most. I hope that you could ...

Teaching K5 Students (5-year-olds)

This age is impressive, to say the least! Their potential for spiritual, moral, and academic growth is astounding. In addition to the same basics 4-year-olds cover in phonics and spelling, fives will learn about suffixes -s, -es, -ed, and -ing plus how to apply phonics and spelling rules to vowel digraphs, modified vowels, and diphthongs. They will study syllabication and accent rules for reading multi-syllabled words. They will recognize variant vowels and consonants (the "rule breakers") plus easily apply their growing knowledge of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns to identifying the "who," "doing," and "what" of sentences (subject and predicate) as a tool of reading comprehension. Writing short stories is enjoyed as well.

What can fives accomplish in math? They can count by 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, and 10s to 100+ as well as read and write numbers to 999. Understanding number concepts is accomplished through "hands on" activities plus place value instruction for 1s, 10s, and 100s places. Five-year-olds proficiently accomplish 50 addition/subtraction combinations through 18 in less than 5 minutes. Learning two- and three-digit addition/subtraction, greater than/less than comparisons to 999, fractions, time, and money is done with ease.

As measured by the 1970 California Achievement Test (CAT) designed for first graders, K5s with one year's education have traditionally scored a median Grade Equivalent (G.E.) of 2.25 with a median Percentile of 86.4. (With two years of Christ-Centered Phonics and Math, the median G.E. has been 3.02, with a 98.8 Percentile.)

If you are a first-time buyer of Christ-Centered-Curriculum, the following elements are recommended for teaching 5-year-olds. All materials below are available individually, or with a 15% discount in the "Teaching K5/B1st Package" (003) at Discounted Teaching Packages.
